THE BUDDY SYSTEM isn’t just a film about cute dogs who help kids. Our mission is to foster greater awareness, understanding, and dignity for individuals on the autism spectrum. We want the world to realize that people with autism are people first. They have personalities, passions, and feelings just like the rest of us and are worthy of our attention, respect, and admiration. We also want to show that a specially trained autism assistance dog really can make a difference in the life of a child (or adult) on the spectrum and can also transform the lives of family members.
Here are a few ways, large and small, that YOU can make a difference...
A simple story about a boy and his dog tells the story of so many other families––maybe even that of your friend or next-door neighbor. Utilize social media and personal contacts to help us build a grass roots movement and drive awareness. LIKE, SHARE, & TWEET the link to our trailer, BuddySystemFilm.com and our Facebook page.
WAKE UP THE WORLD
Imagine the isolation of coping alone in an unwelcoming, uninformed world. If you see a child having a melt down or an adult experiencing social anxiety in a public place, don't judge. Smile. Offer assistance, let the parent know you've been there too, and be inclusive. Look beyond differences and embrace the potential of every individual.
DON'T JUDGE. BE INCLUSIVE
Help us get this film seen! Arrange or sponsor a community screening at your local high school, parent's group, Rotary Club, college, church, synagogue, temple, or library. We'll provide a downloadable discussion guide to help further engage audience members after the film.
BE A BUDDY
If you're in a hiring position consider including another visible minority: people on the spectrum. Join the many corporations and businesses large and small, (Walgreens, Freddie Mac, SAP, Aspiritech, Microsoft, The Home Depot, CVS Caremark pharmacies etc.) who have already discovered the benefits of working with people with different perspectives and unique gifts.
HIRE THE (IN)VISIBLE MINORITY
Help sponsor a North Star Autism Assistance Dog for another child. Specially trained assistance dogs can dramatically help individuals on the spectrum and provide a lifeline to the world. Ordinary dogs can make a huge difference in every human life, so volunteer at your local animal shelter to help socialize (and love...) abandoned or mistreated dogs. If you can, open your heart and home to a rescue dog and give them a forever home.
